A.C.E. Curriculum: Independent Worktext-Based Christian Education

A.C.E. (Accelerated Christian Education) is a mastery-based Christian curriculum using individual worktexts called PACEs that students complete independently. The multi subject curriculum covers K-12 with diagnostic testing to place students at appropriate levels in each subject area.

Best for

Homeschool families seeking independent, Christian-based learning for students who work well with self-directed worktexts and mastery-based pacing

Evaluation Criteria

4 concerns · 2 neutral

Teacher TrainingConcern

Minimal teacher support is provided, with materials designed specifically to eliminate the need for teacher preparation or training.

The curriculum requires 'no lesson preparation or presentation by the parent' and comes with basic materials like the 'Home Educator's Manual' and 'Quick Start Kit'

Direct InstructionConcern

The curriculum provides minimal direct instruction, relying instead on independent worktext completion with instruction embedded in PACEs.

Materials are 'designed for children to work independently' with 'no lesson preparation or presentation by the parent necessary' and instruction comes through the worktext format

Knowledge CoherenceConcern

Knowledge building is inconsistent, with social studies lacking comprehensive coverage until high school and heavy focus on recall over deeper understanding.

Social studies is 'lacking in comprehensive coverage of world and United States history and geography until high school level' and 'relies heavily upon simple recall rather than deeper thinking'

Individual Subject RigorConcern

Rigor varies significantly by subject and grade level, with acknowledged weakness in critical thinking skills across most areas.

The curriculum 'never operates at the same thinking-skill levels as curriculum from other major Christian publishers' and students can 'scan for the correct answer without having to really think'

Retrieval PracticeNeutral

Assessment relies heavily on short-term memory with frequent quizzes, but lacks systematic long-term retrieval practice.

Tests 'generally cover only what has recently been studied, relying largely on short-term memory' and students 'take quizzes as they complete each section'

Cross Curricular IntegrationNeutral

Limited integration occurs mainly through Biblical values woven throughout subjects rather than meaningful academic connections.

The curriculum adds 'Biblical wisdom, Scripture memory, and Biblical values throughout' but subjects remain largely compartmentalized in separate PACEs
